The Cline Tree

The Cline Family Association setup a private tree at Ancestry.com for all Cline Cousins to access for free and to continue research to help us find more Clines!

  • You do not need a membership at Ancestry, just an email address

  • You may view the tree and download images attached to individuals

  • You cannot view the names nor details of living people, just a blank male (blue) or female (pink) head

  • Not linked to anyone’s tree nor available to the public

  • To gain read access to the tree, send an email with your name, email, and how you fit into the Cline family to moritzkleinfamilytree@gmail.com and one of the committee members will grant you access

  • If you find mistakes, know of updates (births, marriages, deaths), or possess pictures you wish to add to the tree, send those details to the committee and provide details on what needs to be done

  • If you actively research Cline cousins and would like to participate in the committee with edit rights to the tree, email us and we will get you involved. This tree will NOT link with your current tree.

  • We need DNA testers to link to the tree. If you possess or purchase an AncestryDNA kit, you can link it to the tree to help us out! Email us and we will send you the instructions.

  • If you possess a kit at another testing service, such as MyHeritage, FamilyTreeDNA, 23andMe or LivingDNA, we want you to transfer a copy of your DNA kit to GEDmatch for free to help us out. Email us and we will send you instructions.

  • We want male Clines to take a Y-DNA test at FamilyTreeDNA. Email us at and we will send you instructions.

Cline Tree Standards

The tree follows GEDCOM standards:

  1. All locations only contain names, not labels, such as “County”, “Township”, etc.

  2. The location follows the date, such as “born in Lincoln, died in Catawba” for our cousins prior to 1842

  3. Birth Names for individuals

  4. If they boarded the boat as a “Klein” and got off the boat as a “Cline”, look for them in the “K’s”

  5. Females show maiden names

  6. Other spellings of the person’s name found in the AKA (Also Known As) field

  7. Nicknames found in the AKA field

  8. The very important Titles such as “Dr”, “Rev”, “Sgt” all provide wonderful clues, but they belong in the Title field and not the Name field

  9. If any parts of the name are unknown, such as a missing surname, you will see 5 dashes in that part of the name
